Will H1N1 Patients Fill State Hospitals?

One person has been hospitalized at Fletcher Allen Health Care due to the swine flu.

Only patients admitted to the hospital are actually being tested for H1N1, but dozens more have been treated for flu like symptoms.

A recent report by the nonprofit Trust for America's Health says Vermont could run out of hospital beds because of the virus.

It predicts hospitals in Vermont and New York would be at 108 percent capacity, but hospital administrators dispute that.

"We're not going to run out of beds," says Dr. Christopher Grace of FAHC. "The hospital systems in the state will do what they have to do to take care of patients and we will surge and stretch and do what we need to do."

The report also says hospitals in 14 other states could hit capacity.

Join us tonight on the Channel 3 News at 6:00 p.m. as we continue our special report on the H1N1 virus. Tonight we'll tell you what businesses will do when their employees are stricken by the swine flu.
