One horse from a boarding and training facility in Dane County has been euthanized after contracting the highly contagious equine herpesvirus-1 and two more horses at the same site have tested positive for the virus and are ill, the state veterinarian said.
EHV-1 is highly contagious and causes respiratory disease, abortion and intermittent outbreaks of neurologic disease in horses, said Paul McGraw, the state vet.
