Human infections with avian influenza A(H7N9) virus in China – update 5

WHO/Europe’s fifth update on the outbreak of avian influenza A(H7N9) virus reports that no new confirmed cases of the virus have been reported to WHO since 8 May 2013. Some of the affected provinces and municipalities in China have scaled down their emergency operations. Sporadic cases should still be expected and WHO and partners continue to track the virus closely and provide key information to the public and public health authorities. To date there is no evidence of sustained human-to-human transmission.
WHO/Europe will continue to post situation updates on an ad-hoc basis, when the number of cases increases significantly or the situation changes.
