WHO has discontinued Pandemic Alert Levels

Just in case anybody cares....

Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.

Pandemic Alert level 3? What alert level? We have no alert levels here.

So how do you raise an alert level, if they don't exist?

What am I talking about? I dare you to find any mention of a current alert level on the who website without resorting to a search engine external to the site or internal to the site.

They have simply removed it.

Oh it's still there. Available on this page http://www.who.int/csr/disease/avian_influenza/phase/en/index.html

You just can't find it using their menus, paths and links.

What does this mean? It means that they have raised the level, but do not want to tell anyone.

Please prove me wrong.

I didn't see that they have raised the level. Thank G! (Personally I think it's been at least 4 for months, and needs to be raised.)

I also go to this site for level news. I can't access the WHO site easily either. Just not user friendly imo. http://www.pandemic360.com/

Re: WHO has discontinued Pandemic Alert Levels

I didn't mean to say that they raised it or changed it.

I am saying that they have discontinued the PUBLIC use of the alert levels.

Why?

Why would they discontinue the use of a public warning system?

No need to shout Eladdie.

Maybe I'm dense but, if I can access the information then it's still public. Are you saying that the WHO is no longer updating the site. Has actually discontinued doing so? Without informing the public?

If this is so. It's criminal imo. So much for the transparency that they and other groups were calling for in Nov. 2005. And **** Scarey.

Everyone should be aware and get their personal preparations in order as quickly as possible.

Re: WHO has discontinued Pandemic Alert Levels

Whether it is easy to access or not, the bigger issue would seem to be that the WHO pandemic alert level is not just set at "3", but at "November." Five months later (it is now March at this writing) even the calendar has not been updated, leading to the conclusion that they are loathe to let go of the good old days, when it really was "November" and the pandemic level was, in fact, at "3".

The threat level is still on the WHO site, it is just not on the front page anymor, but if you look you can find it on the site :

For those of you who do not build your own web site,

I often discontinue a product line by just removing a link to that product's page.

I do not remove the page from the site, just anyway for an ordinary user to access it. Most, if not all, websites have these legacy pages, because if needed again in the future, instead of having to rebuild from scratch, all you have to do is recreate the links.

As I said before,

I can find NO way to access the threat level on who's site using their own menu and or subject system. As a matter of fact, a coursory inspection of the site doesn't even mention pandemic threat levels.

What this means is that threat levels don't exist anymore, in WHO "public" practice.

Not a good thing.

IMO

Re: WHO has discontinued Pandemic Alert Levels

I agree eladdie, but it always was a nonsense. Can you imagine the chaos if level 4 were announced to all, instead of just the government(s) involved?
As always; watch what they do, not what they say.
