WHO Director General: ?Fowl products made in Azerbaijan are harmless?

Today World Health Organization (WHO) director general Jong-wook Lee held a press conference with Azerbaijani Health Minister Ogtay Shiraliyev (APA). Shiraliyev said that it is the WHO director general has visited Azerbaijan for the first time since 1948 and Azerbaijan was accessed to this 192-member organization in 1992.
Jong-wook Lee said that he met with President Ilham Aliyev, Premier Arthur Rasizade and Heydar Aliyev Foundation chairwoman Mehriban Aliyeva during his visit to Azerbaijan.
He said that after bird flu was found in Azerbaijan, the WHO cooperated with Azerbaijan closely and he controlled the situation personally.
?Azerbaijan possesses good monitoring and control system, consequently, the bird flu was prevented promptly?.
He also touched on harmlessness of fowls made in Azerbaijan.
?I ate chicken here. Chicken production has decreased but I want to bring to the notice of people that egg and chickens are not dangerous to eat?. The guest stated that in case of pandemic, the WHO can help Azerbaijan. He said that after 6 stages, the disease can mutate to pandemic. The disease is in 3rd stage now that is it transmits from bird to human. Human to human transmission of bird flu has not been observed yet.
?The WHO is very concerned about this problem. We should be ready internationally to prevent the disease from going to pandemic. Every country should have readiness plan and strategy against pandemic. Remedies for bird flu are not very effective. The WHO has 50mln Tamiflu reserve for 5 million people?.
Director General thinks that the best way for prevention of infinite infective diseases like bird flu is that all countries should cooperate with international organizations like the WHO, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
