Comprehensive plan, called the Global Plan of Action to prevent and control pneumonia (HPDP), officially presented as a joint campaign between the two organizations at a global summit on November 2 of pneumonia in New York.
"Pneumonia is the leading cause of child mortality under five years, which kills more than 4 thousand children every day" - said UNICEF Executive Director Ann Veneman. "Effective action to reduce deaths from pneumonia, have implemented more widely and be as accessible to children who are at risk of disease" - she added.
According to WHO Director General Margaret Chan, "This action plan includes strategies to prevent and control pneumonia, which now kills more children than any other disease. We know that this strategy works. Applying it to all countries where acute pneumonia problem, we can save millions of lives. "
