West Point reports first suspected case of swine flu
Posted: May 29, 2009 - 2:32 PM

WEST POINT - The U.S. Military Academy at West Point is dealing with its first likely case of swine flu, officials announced Friday.

The patient lives and/or works at West Point and is currently at home. The person?s identity was not released, but officials confirmed that the individual tested positive for influenza on Thursday. Final test results for the swine flu, also known as novel influenza A (H1N1), may take several days.

?For now this is an isolated case, and we see no reason to implement severe public health measures,? said West Point spokesman Frank DeMaro. ?We are monitoring the health of the force to ensure we?re taking the necessary precautions to educate and safeguard soldiers and Army civilian personnel, as well as family members.?

New York health officials have confirmed 619 cases of swine flu across the state, including three in Orange county and one in Sullivan county. New York City has been hardest hit, with 415 cases and four deaths.
