* Outbreak Location and Affected population: NIEDEROSTERREICH (Near highway A2, Wien-Umgebung)
:
One dead hawk (from a falkoner) and one hawk found sick near the highway A2 were sent to the AGES. Pathomorphological investigation showed encephalitis. Investigations on avian influenza and Newcastle disease were negative.

* WIEN (Wilheminenberg, Wien) : One Kea (Nestor notabilis) from Vienna was diagnosed positive to West Nile virus at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna (VMU). Both strains of the hawks were also investigated again at the VMU ? with the result of lineage 2 West Nile virus.

That is odd: a Kea - a parrot from New Zealand - catching WNV in Vienna , Austria? Must be at the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Ethology, or possibly an escaped bird from the Institute, living "wild".
