Scarlet fever outbreak feared as 240 suspected cases were recorded in Wales last month

There were 240 suspected cases of scarlet fever recorded across Wales last month, new figures have revealed.

Public Health Wales says it is closely monitoring the high levels of the disease which typically affects children aged two to eight years old.

Scarlet fever is highly infectious and can be caught through direct contact with an infected person or through the air.

But there are encouraging signs that overall infection rates may be easing after figures dropped from the 317 recorded in March...

Scarlet fever: reported cases in South West rise to 20 in past week and three TB cases reported

The number of reported cases of scarlet fever across the South West have risen by more than 50 per cent in the last week.

A total of 20 cases were reported across the region, up from 13 in the previous week.

The increase comes amid a worrying rise in reported cases of the bacterial infection, with the number of people in the UK contracting the illness at a 50 year high...
