DWR reports that a red fox was infected with avian influenza

The Department of Wildlife Resources reports that a red fox was infected with the highly pathogenic avian influenza or bird flu.

The fox arrived at the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center March 31st from Loudoun County.

The animal exhibited neurologic symptoms consistent with rabies.

Due to its condition the fox was humanely euthanized to test for the disease as well as other possibilities.
