Q: Could you brief on VAHIP project conducted in Binh Dinh?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
A: VAHIP project sponsored by World Bank has been carried out in 11 provinces, including Binh Dinh from 2007 to December 2010 with the capital of US$38 million.<o:p></o:p>
It is composed of three components, including the control of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in agriculture (component A), influenza prevention and pandemic preparedness in health sector (component B), and project observation and management (component C).<o:p></o:p>
Component A consists of such sub-component as the promotion of veterinary services, pandemic control, and epidemic observation and investigation.<o:p></o:p>
Q: What is the purpose of VAHIP?<o:p></o:p>
A: It aims to further the effectiveness of veterinary services to control HPAI and potential diseases, re-plan the breeding to better control the avian influenza, and minimize the loss.<o:p></o:p>
The project also targets at reducing the rate of infection and death caused avian influenza. It helps build a plan to enhance the capacity of veterinary sector to find and control infectious diseases from the animals.<o:p></o:p>
Q: How will VAHIP be conducted in Binh Dinh in 2008?<o:p></o:p>
A: <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Binh</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Dinh</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Province</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> People's Committee has promulgated the Decision on establishing VAHIP administration. The component A expected to be done this year with some activities like the promotion of veterinary services, pandemic observation, discovery, and report for timely measures. <o:p></o:p>
We will also intensify the propaganda, enhancing the awareness in the community to reach the target of controlling the avian influenza in the earliest time.<o:p></o:p>
For the component B in health sector, the observation and warning systems will be improved, ensuring all measures available for pandemic control.<o:p></o:p>
