HA NOI ? Viet Nam would report on the health of its poultry on the World Health Organisation?s Flunet website, said Deputy Minister of Health Trinh Quan Huan yesterday.
The nation has boosted surveillance on bird flu outbreaks in poultry across the country and will report surveillance results on the World Health Organisation website.
Huan said scattered poultry deaths needed to be taken seriously and closely tracked in the fight against bird flu.
"It?s necessary to continue collecting and examining epidemiological surveillance results through the national flu surveillance system," said Huan.
He said the ministry required localities to take the initiative in carrying out surveillance on the H5N1 virus and continue taking part in the third poultry vaccination campaign in the provinces of Thai Binh, Ha Tay, Quang Binh, Tay Ninh and Dong Thap.
The initial surveillance result showed that total 1,238 samples in the three vaccination campaigns were negative to H5N1 virus.
Bird flu hits Ben Tre
The Animal Health Department in the southern province of Ben Tre yesterday reported that four of a total of 239 samples of poultry tested positive to bird flu.
The positive samples, tested in HCM City?s Animal Health Centre, were taken from a flock of 54 ducks from two farming families in Thanh Phu District.
According to HCM City?s Animal Health Centre, the danger of new bird flu outbreaks in poultry in the area was very high if local authorities and people failed to stay alert.
Animal health workers and the district?s People?s Committee have destroyed infected ducks and made further health tests on ducks in the area. ? VNS
