Dengue Cases in Vietnam Have Doubled: Adults Now Face Greater Risk Than Children
Ministry of Health alerts as Hanoi dengue nearly doubles 2025 pace, COVID also rising

Vietnam's dengue fever epidemic crossed a structural threshold in 2026: the disease that once arrived predictably in the autumn and primarily struck children now circulates year-round, and adults account for more than half of all confirmed cases — a demographic shift that signals the country's mosquito-borne disease burden is worsening in ways that raw case counts alone cannot fully capture.

The Hanoi Center for Disease Control reported on August 3 that the capital had recorded 1,046 dengue cases so far in 2026 — nearly double the 579 cases logged over the same period in 2025 — alongside a simultaneous rise in COVID-19 infections, with 268 COVID cases in Hanoi in the past week alone, up from 185 the week before.
Hanoi Dengue Nearly Doubled vs. Last Year While COVID Cases Also Climbed

Vietnam entered 2026 carrying the heaviest dengue burden in Asia-Pacific: a final 2025 tally of 184,903 dengue cases in 2025 that surpassed the Philippines, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. By the end of May 2026, the national case count had already reached 50,372 cases nationwide — roughly double the figure for the same period in 2025 — with five deaths recorded nationwide.

Ho Chi Minh City reported 995 cases in week 30 — the week ending July 27 — a 20% increase above the four-week rolling average, with 23,481 dengue cases recorded in the city from the beginning of 2026 through that week...
