Re: Venezuela: 2 crew members and three passengers of a ship in Vargas in isolation

It would be of interest to know the reason behind a quarantine measure adopted for a common seasonal influenza strain that does not need longer the isolation of cases since it ended its pandemic phase four years ago.

Apparently similar worries in nearby Trinidad:

Suspected bird flu case in T&T

Seasonal flu ?

The article contains the text:

“There is no outbreak of bird flu in the country right now but we are susceptible because we are as close to Venezuela. They have had a lot of cases in Venezuela and we have put our surveillance on fast forward,” Khan said.

So I think they may be confusing 2009 H1N1 ("swine flu") with H7N9 bird flu. Notably, the article also later confuses the NCoV novel coronavirus with the seasonal coronaviruses that cause colds.

The cause has not yet been identified and "in isolation" might be in ICU
