NAINITAL: After a 62-year-old woman from Haldwani died of swine flu on Tuesday, district administration woke up from its slumber and declared an alert across the district. A medical team rushed to the house of the victim and took samples of her family members and people in the locality. The team also distributed some medicines and briefed residents about preventive measures to check the spread of the disease.

According to officials, the victim Kamla Tripathi visited Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh last month after which around January 26 she started feeling uneasiness in breathing. She was rushed to a private hospital in Haldwani, but her condition worsened and she was taken to a medical college in Bareilly. Doctors sent her sample for testing of swine flu at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, where the report confirmed the infection.

DEHRADUN: With 10 patients, six of them in the state capital, testing positive for swine flu, Uttarakhand government has declared an alert against the disease. So far, Dehradun has registered the highest number of cases of swine flu.
Earlier, two deaths, one each in Haldwani and Dehradun, were recorded. State registered its second swine flu death at Doon Hospital on February 9. A 35-year-old city resident lost her life after a brief battle against swine flu. She was admitted in hospital on February 6.

23-YEAR OLD SWINE FLU PATIENT DIES

One more patient succumbed to swine flu in State Capital on Tuesday, taking the death toll in the dreaded disease to two [in Dehradun - Ro] this season. The victim, reported to be a 23-year old woman, had been undergoing treatment at the Synergy hospital in the city.
The death appears to have perturbed the district health department so much that instead of taking any action to prevent the disease it is now trying to conceal the information and keep the death under wraps ostensibly in the name of preventing the spread of panic in the public. One of the senior officers of the district health department not wanting to be named, confirmed the death of the young woman.

Apart from two deaths the state capital also has 12 confirmed cases of the disease in last two months. The district health authorities have so far collected samples of 41 suspected cases of which 12 tested positive and 26 tested negative while reports of three samples are awaited.

DEHRADUN: Hospitals in the state have recorded two more swine flu deaths since the beginning of the year, taking the toll to four.
The victims were a 47-year-old man who was travelling to the state from Deoband, Saharanpur, and died at a hospital in Dehradun on February 28 and a 23-year-old girl from Kedar Puram who passed away on March 1 at another hospital in Dehradun.
Chief medical officer of Dehradun, Dr SP Agarwal, has confirmed that both deaths are due to swine flu.
Since January 2016, Uttarakhand has recorded 15 swine flu patients, out of which four deaths have been recorded.

SWINE FLU DEATHS MOUNT TO 4

With death of 50-year-old Sarojini Devi on Wednesday, the number of deaths due to Swine flu in state capital this season mounted to four. However the district health department still appears to be in deep slumber on the dreaded disease which is threatening to assume epidemic proportions in the state of Punjab.
The woman, a resident of Bankhadi in Rishikesh was undergoing treatment at Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT), Jollygrant. Confirming the death the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun, Dr S P Agarwal said that the sample of the woman was found positive for the disease on February 26. The number of positive cases of Swine flu in the district has mounted to 13 which include four deaths.
