India 40 fall ill after vaccination by NGO, probe ordered

PANIPAT: The district administration has ordered probe against a Kanpur-based NGO as 40 residents of Shehmalpur village of the district, including a woman sarpanch, fell ill after being vaccinated the 2nd dose against hepatitis B, during a special drive carried out by the NGO.
More than 300 villagers had received vaccination in November and December last, after which around 40 fell ill. Following this, villagers approached a local court and sent a legal notice to the NGO, Jan Kalyan Samiti, apprehending that spurious vaccine was used to immunize them.
Village sarpanch, Sunita Duhan, said that those immunized included a large number of children who were now bed-ridden due to deteriorating health. She, along with her niece, had also taken the injection after which they both fell ill, Sunita said.
