West Nile virus found in Washington County

ST. GEORGE -- Health experts have confirmed the presence of West Nile virus in Washington County?s mosquito population this year.
While prevalent in Africa, the West Nile virus is found annually in Utah?s mosquito population. It first appeared in the state seven years ago, according to a news release issued by the Southwest Utah Public Health Department.
Utah?s Unified State Laboratory confirmed the existence of West Nile in Washington County this year.

A Kane County resident who contracted West Nile virus ? the first confirmed human case this year in Utah ? is recovering well, but health officials warn that warm temperatures mean the mosquito season could continue for a while.
