UT researchers make major discovery that could help fight virulent flu strains


"Working in conjunction with a team from Rutgers University, the UT researchers have determined the three-dimensional structure of a site on an influenza A virus protein that binds to one of the human protein targets and consequently suppresses a person?s natural defenses to infection. The so-called NSI virus protein is shared by all flu A viruses isolated from humans, including avian flu, or bird flu, and the 1918 pandemic influenza virus."
