APHIS is announcing the availability of funding to support the new comprehensive strategy to curb highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), protect the U.S. poultry industry, and lower egg prices.



Through this opportunity, APHIS is investing up to $100 million to support projects in the following priority topics:
  • Develop novel vaccines to protect poultry from HPAI
  • Develop novel therapeutics to address HPAI in poultry
  • Conduct research to further understand avian influenza in poultry and to improve response strategies

Harnessed American Innovation in Avian Flu Research & Vaccine Development: USDA received an overwhelming response to the HPAI Poultry Innovation Grand Challenge Funding Opportunity, which closed on May 19, 2025, with 417 proposals received. In total, applicants proposed a total of $793 million in funding. These projects focus on a range of innovations to support research into HPAI prevention, therapeutics, and potential vaccines. USDA expects awards to be finalized by this fall.​
