THE SPANISH FLU

To this day, no one knows how many people in Kitsap County died during the Spanish Influenza pandemic. One reason is because statistics, erratic then, are lost now. Another reason is because the state health department in 1919 forbid county coroners to publicly disclose mortality figures. Such revelations, it was feared, would incite panic.
