Tulsa father charged with felony child neglect after children die in hot truck

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — A Tulsa man has been charged with felony child neglect for the deaths of his two young children, according to the Department of Justice.

Dustin Dennis, 31, is accused of leaving his children unsupervised for more than four hours. During that time, they got into his truck and died from heat exposure.

Last week, Dennis was charged with second-degree murder in state court, but those charges were dismissed Monday following last week's Supreme Court ruling involving Native American jurisdiction.

Investigators say the crime happened within the boundaries of the Creek Nation, and that his 4-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son are Cherokee citizens.

Girl dies after being found in hot car Saturday
A toddler died Saturday afternoon in Hopkinsville after being found inside a hot car on South Virginia Street.

Hopkinsville police are investigating and Detective Sgt. Todd DeArmond says the mother of the three-year old girl told police she began looking for the girl after noticing her missing and found her unresponsive inside a vehicle. It’s believed she got inside the vehicle on her own.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ala. (WAFF) - UPDATE: The Franklin County Sheriff released new information on the recent death of a child who was left in his parents car overnight.

The three-year-old boy was believed to be left in the hot car between the hours of 11:30 p.m. on August 8 until 3 p.m. the following afternoon. The father and mother gave statements that led investigators to determine they may have forgotten about the child being in the vehicle when they arrived home from a friend’s house around the hour of the night before.

Alabama toddlers found dead in hot car in Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. (WIAT) — Authorities are investigating after a two brothers, a 1-year-old and 3-year-old, were found dead in a vehicle Saturday afternoon.

Authorities responded to a location near Highway 25 and Reynolds Cemetery Road in Montevallo around 3 p.m.

The Shelby County Coroner, Lina Evans, is calling this a “tragic accident.” According to Evans, the brothers were playing outside the family’s home and entered the vehicle.

Death of Boy, 3, Believed to Have Died in Hot Car, Is Now a Homicide Investigation: Police
Kaiden Garner's preliminary cause of death was blunt force trauma, according to the Florence Police Department

Alabama police are investigating the death of a three-year-old boy who they initially believed died in a hot car.

The Florence Police Department said Kaiden Garner died on Wednesday, in what was first reported as a possible heat exposure death.

"The information on the original response of patrol was that he had been in a vehicle most of the day," Florence Police Department Lt. Wes Gargis tells PEOPLE. "This is information coming in at midnight in the midst of a chaotic event. That was the original information we gathered."

Gargis says Kaiden was transported by ambulance to the hospital from the parking lot of an apartment complex.

Since then, his death has been ruled a homicide and a preliminary autopsy showed the child died from blunt force trauma.

Oklahoma authorities are investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl who was left in a hot car for approximately six hours on Monday — the 19th case of vehicular heatstroke in 2020, according to the child safety website KidsAndCars.org.

Edmond police said the child's father found her in the car, News 9 reported. She was taken to The Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City where she was pronounced dead, the station reported. Temperatures reached 90 degrees in Edmond on Monday, according to Weather.com.

“His statement to us is that he has caring for five kids ... and that he just didn’t realize she was in there until it’s too late,” Edmond Police spokeswoman Emily Ward said.

PHOENIX — A 3-year-old girl is dead and her mother behind bars after authorities found the child unresponsive inside a hot car in Arizona, police said.

According to KSAZ and KNXV, Phoenix police responded to an apartment near Thunderbird Road and Interstate 17 about 4:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving a call about a missing toddler. Tianna Jones, 23, told officers that her daughter, Delilah, had vanished, police said.
