It's interesting to note that it appears the range of the Aedes albopictus mosquito includes Rhode Island so local transmission is possible.

Two chikungunya cases confirmed in Rhode Island

Two cases of the chikungunya virus infection have been confirmed by the Rhode Island Department of Health.

The cases were associated with travelers who returned from the Dominican Republic on May 17th and May 29th of this year...
