USA. FDA Approves Vaccine for 2009-2010 Seasonal Influenza

Re: USA. FDA Approves Vaccine for 2009-2010 Seasonal Influenza

My bottom line logic for getting a near-exposure seasonal VAX is not only potential cross-reactivity stimulation, but ..... it won't hurt anything, so why not?
.

I seem to remembering that there was a WHO dispute about if to include a 4th strain in a seasonal vacc. or not, because fears of overcrowding by strains the body immune response.

So, maybe the response in terms of good immunization, could be flawed if it got already few months previous an seasonal trivalent vaccine, and than an 2 times needed additional pandemic flu vaccine,
in a sense that the subsequent pandemic vacc. immunization will produce less strong immune response because of the previous already produced reactions to the seasonal strains.

Re: USA. FDA Approves Vaccine for 2009-2010 Seasonal Influenza

The US government is going to fund a study of whether the two vaccines can be given at the same time, seasonal and new H1N1. If it works, that would help with the mechanics of flu vaccination, like millions of people being vaccinated.

Another interesting thing is that there are signs that the seasonal H3N2 flu is mutating such that the vaccination might be partially or not effective against it. The 10 day old CDC statistics say 4% of the H3N2 samples were that way. We could end up with two epidemics at the same time.
