Needham ? .

Up to 47 people received in Needham, including 15 firefighters, received a second dose of the seasonal flu shot instead of the H1N1 vaccine last week due to an apparent label mix-up, town administrators learned on Nov. 23.

WCVB Channel 5 first reported the mistake on Nov. 23.

Public health nurses gave the flu shots to firefighters and other first responders, along with several residents, late last week. Labeling was cited for the mistake, based on reports.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now warning health departments about the potential label confusion, WCVB Channel 5 reported. The label of the seasonal flu vaccination reportedly had H1N1 on the label as a targeted strain but it is not intended to immunize people from the current H1N1 strain.

The Needham Health Department reportedly contacted the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and learned there is no health risk in receiving a second dose of the seasonal flu vaccine. The town is now reaching out to those who received the wrong vaccine in order to remedy the mix-up.
