I agree that the CFR in the Ukraine isn't that much different than in many other countries - it is essentially the same virus after all. As far as what D225G is responsible for, I believe most of the positives are simply PCR tests, not viral isolations, so it would be impossible to know that.

I would assume that some of the 47 who were negative for H1N1 acutally had the virus, but testing returned a negative for various reasons (too late, too shallow, false negative, etc.). Others may be due to seasonal strains, RSV, bacteria, etc. Keep in mind a previous article that said that Ukraine MOH is still detecting both "seasonal" strains of flu, as well as influenza B viruses.

Still less than a 10% attack rate overall in Ukraine - keep in mind that the US believes it has had 80,000,000 cases of H1N1 which would be a 25% attack rate (and that some of the ARI in Ukraine is not H1N1, so the H1N1 attack rate in Ukraine would be even lower).

As far I have interpreted from text, these are likely isolations (sectional material) of 8 samples each dead patient. So it would be very useful to know what kind of bug were the negatives.

I agree with you that all reported ARI was not pandemic flu, in fact my personal thought is it's less than 50% across the whole two waves, if we apply the median viral load from the whole European continent. But what puzzle me is TIME, 80 days is a lot less than EEUU has needed to reach the "supposed" 25% attack rate.

Note also the hospitalization numbers. Only about 380 in hospital in Donetsk, down from nearly 3,000 at one point.
