TOP ROWER KILLED BY WATER BUG

By Daily Express reporter AN Olympic rowing champion who won two gold medals with Sir Steve Redgrave died from a rare waterborne infection caused by rats, an inquest confirmed yesterday.
Andy Holmes, 51, had Weil’s disease, caught by contact with water containing the urine of infected animals.
It is thought he fell into the water during a race and the bacteria entered through a wound. Mr Holmes, of Dulwich, south London, died five weeks later in October last year.
In a narrative verdict, Southwark coroner Doreen Lawrence said he died from a massive haemorrhage into the membrane surrounding his brain. He won his golds in 1984 and 1988
