EIGHT people have been treated at Southport Hospital for swine flu following a new outbreak.

One of those eight, dad-of-four Anthony Jones, 38, died at the hospital after contracting the virus.

Two patients with swine flu are still being treated at Southport and Formby District General Hospital, including a dad-of-three from Southport.

The man, who is thought to work for Royal Mail, is due to be transferred to Leicester for specialist treatment, but remains under the care of doctors in Southport.

A spokesman for Southport Hospital said: ?The Trust has treated eight patients since October who were confirmed to be suffering from the H1N1 strain of influenza, commonly known as swine flu.

?One patient, who died while in the care of the Trust, had other underlying medical conditions.

?Two patients remain in our care. The rest have been discharged.?

Anthony?s widow Sara, who lives in Skelmersdale, spoke of the shock felt by Mr Jones? family following her husband?s sudden death.

Sara, 41, said: ?I had been with Tony for more than 20 years.

?He was my soulmate and a legend to everyone who knew him. He will be sorely missed by everyone.

?I am numb, as are the children. I?m still in shock about the whole situation. It happened so quickly and I have so many unanswered questions.
