Jacqui Fleming, 38, gave birth nearly three months prematurely at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, near Glasgow.
The tiny tot - named Jack - lost his battle for life in the same hospital where his mother passed away on Sunday.
His heart-broken dad William McCann said in a statement: "My beautiful son was born on 1st June 2009, 11 weeks early.
"He suffered from a number of complications and despite his brave fight he passed away earlier this evening at the Special Care Baby Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.
"Coming so soon after the death of his mum, this is an extremely distressing and difficult time for our family and I would ask the media to respect our privacy as we try to cope with the loss of Jacqueline and Jack."

Mrs Fleming's death - the first outside the Americas - came as the total number of UK swine flu cases hit 1,261.
She had been gravely ill in hospital suffering from the influenza H1N1 virus.

She had underlying health problems and was one of ten swine flu cases in hospital in the greater Glasgow area.
A 26-year-old nurse who helped treat her at the city’s Southern General Hospital has also contracted the virus.

Mrs Fleming's family confirmed her death in an emotional statement today.
They said: "We can confirm that our beloved Jacqueline Fleming passed away yesterday afternoon.
"Our whole family is absolutely devastated and we are doing everything we can to support Jacqueline's two sons and her partner."
A family friend said: "It is a tragedy. She had an 18-year-old son and a boy of around nine or 10 and a new baby who will grow up without a mother now.
"I think they are taking it really badly.
"She was a really nice lady, really kind, a quiet woman, just a family person really."
The mother, who was in intensive care, was one of 10 being treated in hospital in Scotland.
A source said: “It’s tragic. Hospital staff didn’t realise she was pregnant when she was admitted. Everyone is shattered.”
Burnham ... 'don't panic' call
The flats where Mrs Fleming lived are close to a primary school. One pupil there has already contracted the virus and it is expected to be shut today.
A Health Protection Agency spokesman said: “This is tragic for the patient’s family and friends, and our deepest sympathies are with them.
Meanwhile, a British tourist in Malaysia tested positive for swine flu, the country's health ministry said.
Malaysia has seen 15 cases of the disease so far, of which six remain quarantined.
“In the majority of cases so far, swine flu has been generally mild but it is proving severe in a small minority of cases. The risk to the general population remains low.”
Around 150 deaths have so far been reported around the world among the 30,000 with swine flu.
Last night Scottish Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: “The vast majority of swine flu sufferers are only experiencing mild symptoms. We remain one of the best-prepared countries in the world.”
The tragedy comes days after the World Health Organisation raised the swine flu outbreak to the status of pandemic. Health Secretary Andy Burnham urged people not to panic.
Cases
A further 61 patients in England were confirmed as having swine flu yesterday — on top of 35 cases confirmed in Scotland on Sunday and 43 on Saturday.
It brings the total number of UK sufferers to 1,226.
Rare ... Prof John Oxford
Virologist Professor John Oxford said last night: “I do not think people should be worrying. The virus is still at a very low level. I do not expect it to dramatically increase until the autumn.”
“I am still more likely to get pickpocketed on the Tube tomorrow than to meet someone with swine flu. It is so rare.”
A Department of Health spokesman said: “Localised cases of swine flu found in the UK have so far been generally mild in most people — but are proving to be severe in a small minority of cases.
“We are continuing to work to slow the spread of the disease and to put in place arrangements to ensure that the UK is well-placed to deal with this new infection. We offer condolences to the family at this very difficult time.
“This is a tragic case but, across the UK, the majority of cases have not been severe.
The UK has enough of the anti-viral Tamiflu to cover half of the population but orders are in place for 50 million doses — enough to cover 80 per cent.
Last Friday’s World Health Organisation report said 74 countries have officially reported 29,669 cases of swine flu, including 145 deaths.
It is the first flu pandemic in more than 40 years. Dr Margaret Chan, director-general of the WHO, said the world should brace itself for more deaths.
Fatalities have also occurred in Mexico, the US, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Guatemala.

Mrs Fleming's death - the first outside the Americas - came as the total number of UK swine flu cases hit 1,261.
She had been gravely ill in hospital suffering from the influenza H1N1 virus.

She had underlying health problems and was one of ten swine flu cases in hospital in the greater Glasgow area.
A 26-year-old nurse who helped treat her at the city’s Southern General Hospital has also contracted the virus.
Mrs Fleming's family confirmed her death in an emotional statement today.
They said: "We can confirm that our beloved Jacqueline Fleming passed away yesterday afternoon.
"Our whole family is absolutely devastated and we are doing everything we can to support Jacqueline's two sons and her partner."
A family friend said: "It is a tragedy. She had an 18-year-old son and a boy of around nine or 10 and a new baby who will grow up without a mother now.
"I think they are taking it really badly.
"She was a really nice lady, really kind, a quiet woman, just a family person really."
The mother, who was in intensive care, was one of 10 being treated in hospital in Scotland.
A source said: “It’s tragic. Hospital staff didn’t realise she was pregnant when she was admitted. Everyone is shattered.”
The flats where Mrs Fleming lived are close to a primary school. One pupil there has already contracted the virus and it is expected to be shut today.
A Health Protection Agency spokesman said: “This is tragic for the patient’s family and friends, and our deepest sympathies are with them.
Meanwhile, a British tourist in Malaysia tested positive for swine flu, the country's health ministry said.
Malaysia has seen 15 cases of the disease so far, of which six remain quarantined.
“In the majority of cases so far, swine flu has been generally mild but it is proving severe in a small minority of cases. The risk to the general population remains low.”
Around 150 deaths have so far been reported around the world among the 30,000 with swine flu.
Last night Scottish Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: “The vast majority of swine flu sufferers are only experiencing mild symptoms. We remain one of the best-prepared countries in the world.”
The tragedy comes days after the World Health Organisation raised the swine flu outbreak to the status of pandemic. Health Secretary Andy Burnham urged people not to panic.
Cases
A further 61 patients in England were confirmed as having swine flu yesterday — on top of 35 cases confirmed in Scotland on Sunday and 43 on Saturday.
It brings the total number of UK sufferers to 1,226.
Virologist Professor John Oxford said last night: “I do not think people should be worrying. The virus is still at a very low level. I do not expect it to dramatically increase until the autumn.”
“I am still more likely to get pickpocketed on the Tube tomorrow than to meet someone with swine flu. It is so rare.”
A Department of Health spokesman said: “Localised cases of swine flu found in the UK have so far been generally mild in most people — but are proving to be severe in a small minority of cases.
“We are continuing to work to slow the spread of the disease and to put in place arrangements to ensure that the UK is well-placed to deal with this new infection. We offer condolences to the family at this very difficult time.
“This is a tragic case but, across the UK, the majority of cases have not been severe.
The UK has enough of the anti-viral Tamiflu to cover half of the population but orders are in place for 50 million doses — enough to cover 80 per cent.
Last Friday’s World Health Organisation report said 74 countries have officially reported 29,669 cases of swine flu, including 145 deaths.
It is the first flu pandemic in more than 40 years. Dr Margaret Chan, director-general of the WHO, said the world should brace itself for more deaths.
Fatalities have also occurred in Mexico, the US, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Guatemala.
