A measles outbreak has been declared at a school in Newport.

Public Health Wales said four people with links to Lliswerry High School had been diagnosed with the illness.

Vaccinations are being carried out at the school and parents have been sent letters to alert them to the risk.

Parents have been urged to ensure their children have received both doses of the MMR vaccine. The first dose is usually given at 12 months and the second at 40 months...

Cases of Mumps and Measles on the rise throughout London

There has been a dramatic rise in reported cases of mumps, particularly in teenagers and young adults across London, public health officials warned. Public Health England (PHE), alongside the NHS, are investigating after nearly 450 cases were reported between January 1 and May 30 this year. This is an increase of 150 cases compared to the same five month period in 2016. Across West London; The City of Westminster had the lowest infection rate with only 8 cases, with 15 reported in Kensington and Chelsea.

This news comes in tandem with data that shows that cases of measles have also sky-rocketed in London and the South East last year, reaching the highest number since the last outbreak in 2012 (which saw 3,873 cases across England and Wales). There were a total of 60 cases recorded in 2016 (there were 382 in 2012) compared to just four in 2015. London and the South West were the only two regions to record more cases of the viral infection last year...

Three new cases of measles have been confirmed as investigations continue into the outbreak affecting the Newport and Torfaen areas.

Public Health Wales says the new cases bring the total confirmed number in the outbreak to eight.

Two cases are children who caught measles from another patient while attending the accident and emergency department at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport on the evening of June 14...

A measles outbreak which has struck people in parts of South Wales is the same strain which has killed dozens across Europe.

Public Health Wales has confirmed that two more people have been diagnosed with measles in Newport and Torfaen, bringing the overall total to 10.

It says the outbreak has been caused by the same strain that has affected more than 14,000 people across Europe this year ? and killed 35 people.

Experts are now calling on all parents to ensure their children are vaccinated as the school summer holidays begin...

THIRTEEN people have now contracted measles during the current outbreak in Gwent, following the confirmation of another case.

This takes the total number of people who have caught the disease in the area since June to 16.

There are now up to 12 cases of measles in the current outbreak, which has affected two schools, and seen cases among young children.

TRAVELLERS bound for the Christmas markets in Europe could spark a measles outbreak this side of the Channel, experts have warned.

Holidaymakers in search of some festive feels are at risk of catching the potentially deadly disease.

Public Health England (PHE) today urged those heading for Italy, Germany and Romania, in particular, to take extra care.

Health chiefs warned those people who haven't had both doses of the MMR vaccine, are at greatest risk of infection.

It comes as PHE confirmed three outbreaks in England are linked to people travelling to the continent.

There are currently 16 confirmed cases of measles in Leeds, 11 in Liverpool and nine in Birmingham...

Measles has spread as far south as Surrey, as Public Health England (PHE) confirms 70 cases of the deadly viral disease in the UK.

Leeds has seen 28 confirmed cases of Measles, as of December 8, while 18 cases were in Liverpool.

Birmingham has reported 13 cases, seven cases were confirmed in Surrey, and Manchester has had four instances of measles.

All of the cases were reported in children and adults that didn?t receive two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine...

Public Health England (PHE) has issued a warning following 10 confirmed cases of measles in Surrey.

The government body is urging people across the county to check that they are up to date with the MMR vaccine following the diagnoses.

On Thursday (December 14) PHE confirmed the cases on its website, along with 29 confirmed cases in West Yorkshire, 20 in Cheshire and Liverpool, 16 in West Midlands and four in Greater Manchester.
