OVER 100 pigs have been killed by African Swine Fever in four sub-counties in Moyo district in four days, the district veterinary officer has said.
Dr. Dominic Lali Ogo said the contagious fever, also known as Pig cholera, is caused by a virus and can kill in a week.
He said the disease that broke out in Dufile, Metu and Moyo town council was imported from adjumani district by local people.
"The virus can stay for several days in pork, bones and fluid from the pig and when another one eats or gets in contact with the disease, it will automatically be infected," he said.
Lali said the disease was a blow to many people who sell pig products, especially widows and single mothers.
Veterinary officers have banned transportation and random movement of pigs and roasting of pork in the district.
