A special school in Chai Wan and a child-care center in Kwai Chung have been shut down for a week following confirmed cases of human swine flu (H1N1), heightening fears of more outbreaks a week before the majority of schools open.

The cases involving 16 children and two staffers were the first institutional outbreak reported since schools closed early for the summer, and follows the plight of a four-year-old boy who remains critically ill with swine flu. He became critically ill just hours after being admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital.
On July 27 and July 31, the government advised two secondary schools holding summer classes to shut down for 10 days after H1N1 cases were confirmed. Full schooling has not resumed at either school.

Three boys were confirmed with swine flu, one of them hospitalized in stable condition.
The special school at Hei Tsui House in Wan Tsui Estate, Chai Wan has 58 students.

The second case involved six boys and four girls, aged one to three, at the HKSKH Lady MacLehose Centre Joyful Children World in Kwai Chung.
They developed flu-like symptoms since Saturday. Three students - a two-year-old boy and two one-year-old girls - tested positive for swine flu. Two girls were hospitalized in stable condition.
The center cares for 48 toddlers.
Both facilities run yearlong day services.
A total of 247 newly confirmed cases of H1N1 were announced over the past 24 hours, including two cases from elderly homes.
A 76-year-old man from Kwai Tsing was admitted to Yan Chai Hospital on August 16 while an 83-year-old man was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital on Monday. Both were listed as in stable condition.
The new cases bring to 7,561 the total number of confirmed H1N1 sufferers in Hong Kong. Sixty-four patients remain in public hospitals, with six critical and one serious. So far, 183 Hospital Authority staff members have fallen sick with swine flu, all of them requiring isolation at home. Of those, 122 have already recovered and returned to work.
They include 13 new cases - a doctor, seven nurses, one allied health professional, one clerical worker and three support staff.
Another 67-year-old man is critical with seasonal flu H3, and is being treated in an isolation ward at United Christian Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Clean Hong Kong Campaign kicked off yesterday with around 2,200 volunteers cleaning districts to help promote clean and healthy living among the elderly.
