She described the smell and the scene as horrific.

“In one area, I was counting 14 sheep,” Smith said. “I watched one of them drop dead into the water hole right in front of me. ... I know sheep die when it’s hot, but this seems extreme.”

It struck Gene Pirelli, a regional livestock specialist for Oregon State University Extension Service, as strange too...

Turner is southeast of Salem, OR.

Also it's only about 37 miles from where the largest ever mass bee die-off recently happened.
