Tucson, AZ: 84-yr-old man survives 2,000 stings from Africanized bees though only 500-800 stings are usually lethal

The man was 84 yrs old, (he was ambushed by 50,000 bees that had taken up residence in a shed on his property), and the average lethal dose is only 500-800 stings. I wonder if he had some immunity to the toxin from other exposures during his life.
