Two more die of malaria

Even after three deaths, there is no let-up in the malaria cases in trans-Yamuna region. Two children also reportedly died due to malaria in the past 24 hours, although the Malaria Department claimed that deaths occurred due to other reasons.
However, over two dozen residents in Barua, Bhispuri, Pipraun, Ghurmi, Geenj, Sirhat and Asarvai villages are suffering from high fever and other symptoms similar to malaria.
According to the local reports, Neeraj (3) and Khushbu (3) of Hadaha village in Jari reportedly died due to malaria on Tuesday afternoon. They had tested positive for malaria at a private pathology centre in Jari. The malaria deaths also occurred in Lotadh (11-year-old Raja) and Pipraun (10-year-old Salum) in the past week, informed the local people.
The residents who have fallen seriously ill due to suspected malaria fever include Asharfi Lal and Indrakali of Barua in Rehi Gram Sabha. About 30 houses are also affected in Rehi due to viral fever.
About 32 residents in Bhispuri village have also complained of fever, shivering and headache. Similarly residents of Geenj, Mahendra Kumar (12) and Seema have also fallen seriously ill.
They have reportedly tested positive for malaria.
The malaria department collected slides of 12 suspected malaria patients in Sirhat village in Machiyari, in which six slides tested positive for malaria.
The suspected malaria patients in Pipraun and Khadesar reportedly include Wasim (28), Tariq (17), Mithai Lal (9), Baba Lal (32) and Choti (2).
The residents in these villages complained that despite a large number of malaria cases the fogging was not properly done due to which mosquitoes continue to thrive in water-logged areas.
Additional chief medical officer (Vector Borne Disease) Dr RB Singh said Neeraj died possibly due to lung disease. Whereas, Khusbu was a marasmus baby and died due to malnutrition.
"We collected 30,000 malaria slides, in which 3000 slides tested positive for malaria. The treatment of these patients has already started. We have also made extensive plans for fogging in flood affected areas, after the water recedes," he added.
