Six Egyptian tourists test positive for Coronavirus in France

Egyptian authorities have been testing staff at the site where tourists later diagnosed with the novel coronavirus had stayed before returning to France, Egypt’s prime minister said Saturday.

France said Friday six travellers returning from Egypt had been diagnosed with the COVID-19 illness, raising an earlier toll of two.

Egyptian premier Mostafa Madbouli said Saturday that Cairo had been informed of the cases, “part of a tourist group visiting in Egypt between February 5-16”.

“Workers at the site where the group stayed have been tested” for the virus, the statement said without revealing its location...

  • CAIRO - 29 February 2020: The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced that it is in contact with France and Canada after the two countries confirmed cases with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) coming from Egypt.
David Williams, medical officer of health in Ontario, said on Friday that eight cases, including a man coming from Egypt, were tested positive for the virus in Toronto’s Ontario, CBC reported. Consequently, the cases reported in Canada rose to 16 people so far.

"Throughout his travels, the man wore a mask," the Ontario Ministry of Health said in a release. "Toronto Public Health is actively engaged in contact tracing and case management," he was quoted as saying by the CBC.

French Minister of Health Olivier V?ran announced on Friday that there were six people on holiday in Egypt and two of those people were diagnosed with Coronavirus, noting that the total number of people in France increased to 57 cases for far.

...A spate of new cases has been reported over the past few days, all of them people who had recently travelled to Iran or Egypt, or family members of those who had visited the countries. The latest three cases included two women in their 60s and 70s who returned from Egypt on Feb. 20, and a man in his 60s who returned from Iran on Feb. 23...
...and Ontario in fact now has more Egypt-linked cases of COVID-19 than that country itself has publicly reported. Williams said another country has encountered the same situation with Egypt-linked cases, leading him to believe this is a cluster related to a specific event there.

HOUSTON (TEXAS)— A Rice University staffer has tested positive for coronavirus, the university confirmed Thursday evening.

This is one of two coronaviruses confirmed in Harris County. One case is also confirmed in Fort Bend County.

All three people, 2 men and a woman, traveled to Egypt in February.

The Rice employee returned to Houston on Feb. 20 and only made two trips to the campus on Feb. 24 and Feb. 25., according to the university...

2 'presumptive positive' Florida cases linked to Egyptian river cruise

TAMPA, Fla. — Egyptian authorities say a cruise ship on Egypt's Nile River with over 150 tourists and local crew is in quarantine, and 45 people tested positive for the new coronavirus.

Two of the passengers were Florida residents who tested presumptively positive, according to the Florida Department of Health.

They are now in isolation in Volusia County and Okaloosa County.

The Florida Department of Health said anyone who was on tours on the cruise to Israel and Jordan between Feb 4-18, 2020, may have been exposed to COVID-19...

DNA test shows Taiwanese woman likely caught COVID-19 in Egypt

...the DNA sequencing of the 39th patient indicates that the virus strain she was infected with has little similarity with the virus strains found in the other Taiwanese patients.

It is closer to those found in coronavirus infection samples in Europe, including those in Italy, Brazil and Nigeria, according to Yeh.

As such, the results indicate that the Taiwanese patient was not infected with the coronavirus in Taiwan but likely did so during her Egypt trip, which means she was not necessarily the source of the cluster infection among the Egyptian crew members....
