LAMPEDUSA, ITALY (CNN)

"For years, most of the boat people coming to Lampedusa, Italy were Sub-Saharan African migrants feeling poverty and unemployment.

But now there's a new driver - the grinding war in Libya.

"If I stay there it will be dangerous for me. Not by the government troop. But by bombarding. It's very dangerous. Maybe by NATO or maybe the government, it all is dangerous. I have to escape," Cooper said."
