Scientists say they may have found a way to fight off the flu before it makes you sick.
They have developed a man-made protein which kick-starts the immune system into tackling the virus in just two hours.
The synthetic defender, called EP67, has been used up until now in vaccines to help stimulate the body?s defences, which in turn helps the vaccine work.
But researchers saw the potential for it to work in a much wider way by encouraging the body to fight off the flu virus.
The problem with current flu vaccines is they have to be made for each new virus that comes along.
This means large numbers of people are struck down by flu before the medicine can be manufactured.
But, it is hoped EP67 could work against any flu virus that appears.
