2009 A/H1N1 Pandemic Virus -

First post on FluTrackers - April 17th, 2009, 02:56 PM

The Discovery of the 2009 A/H1N1 Pandemic - Mexico: April 17 New Respiratory Illnesses - Including Mexico City & Oaxaca

The first public posting of this information in the world.

as per page 262 in post above:

March 11 - Symptoms of swine flu in person in Mexico - but not identified until May 5.

March 30 - Sick boy in Southern California goes to the Naval Hospital in San Diego for treatment.

April 1 - This virus is determine to be A but can not be subtyped.

April 11 - PAHO asks Mexico to characterize reported virus outbreak there.

April 12 - Mexico informs PAHO that they consider this virus a "potential public health event with international importance".

April 17 - FluTrackers posts first public notification on this event and starts thread to investigate the situation. Our notes show as of April 23rd ProMed had not posted on this situation.

April 21 - Samples from Mexico arrive at PHAC for analysis.

April 22 - CDC mentions San Diego cases in MMWR.

April 23 - CDC and PHAC confirm that samples from Mexico are A/H1N1 of Swine origin.

--------------------------

As far as I can tell we are not mentioned as an informal source of disease information for this event in the above referenced paper.

This is a obvious error and casts doubt on the entire process used to evaluate the internet for the purposes of this paper.

Thank you to the devoted and tireless volunteers here at FluTrackers who worked to provide the first public notification of this event to the world.

It makes no difference whether this paper acknowledges our contribution or not. Many, many know.

And we know in our hearts.

"It takes two to speak truth -- one to speak and another to hear."
