OK - i went to hear Dr. Michael Greger speak tonight.
It was held at a comedy club! Go figure.
About 30 people in attendance. Michael ran through his talk while showing a PPT presentation with slides and video - very well done.
He started with the emergence of Infectious disease? from domesticated animals, wild animals for food? through the current situation of poultry farming. Seems that we humans didn?t have infectious disease for a long time in our history until we domesticated animals? then a whole host of diseases popped up.
He then gracefully moved into H5N1, science, history etc? covered all the bases? nice job.
But he kept the WHO confirmed H2H out of it preferring to not be alarmist? came back to bite him on the butt during Q&A?
He is also not as up to date as we are? since his internet abilities on the road are limited.
Overall, a very good presentation? a bit long but a necessary intro into Panflu.
One question from a health professional was adversarial - it is just a bird disease. No humans yet? health care is terrible - we should focus on that? doesnt Rumsfeld own tami stock?
I noticed another persons head shaking in unison with mine? and passed him a note that read? ?Goju?.
His eyes lit up. He is a poster here and at FW. We had a good talk?
My one suggestion to the fine Doc? was that he not end the talk with the light hearted ?Daily Show? segment covering BF. If you didn?t see it, it was Jon Stewart at his best poking fun at a serious subject. I told Michael to drop that? leave them shaking in their boots as they left. He said he thought it would make it more dealable? not including it would paralyze people into non action. I humbly disagreed and dropped $30 for his autographed 465 page book? ?The Bird Flu - A Virus Of Our Own Hatching? on sale next week.
The book is available online for FREE - http://www.birdflubook.org/
The doc is a good man. All proceeds go to charity.
