The Nakhon Ratchasima Livestock Development Office has announced a one-month closure for all cock fighting ranges in the province as part of an attempt to prevent bird flu outbreak, beginning August 15th.

Mr. Khanchai Huntrakul (ขวัญชัย ฮุนตระกูล), the head of the office, has revealed that there are more than 10,000 fighting cocks in the province, in which 6,800 of them have been registered. However, the province is urging the cocks? owners to bring all the rest of them for registration.

A great idea. I wonder however if it will be enforced? Cock fighting is illegal in the US (mostly) but it still happens in out of the way places. I wish them the best of luck.
