The state of Tennessee this week began auctioning off "surplus" coronavirus testing materials, listing 13 pallets of test swabs and other supplies on GovDeals.com, a government liquidation website.
Dean Flener, spokesman for the state's COVID-19 Unified Command Team, said the auction was the "the result of an internal processing mistake." The supplies should have been put into storage but were inadvertently labeled as surplus, then were listed for auction by the Department of General Services, Flener said.
