Taiwan reports 1st local measles case since September 2022

Taipei, Feb. 19 (CNA) The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Monday urged the public to stay alert after Taiwan reported its first locally acquired case of measles since September 2022.

CDC Deputy Director General Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) told reporters that the infected individual was a man in his 30s from northern Taiwan who sought emergency treatment at hospital on Feb. 13 after developing a fever the previous day.

The man, who continued to run a high fever, was diagnosed with measles on Feb. 15 after developing additional symptoms, including coughing and a soar throat, Lo said.​..

Taiwan reports rare measles cluster

​Taipei, Feb. 28 (CNA) The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has reported a rare domestic measles cluster in Taiwan involving two people, after identifying a patient who contracted the disease from the index case at a northern Taiwan hospital.

The new case, a medical worker in his 30s, had been affected by dizziness, coughing and a rash since Feb. 24 before testing positive for the disease on Tuesday, CDC Deputy Director General Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) said Wednesday.

A total of 306 people have been identified as close contacts of the man, who is being isolated at home, Lo said.

Those contacts included four non-cohabiting family members and 302 others whose activities overlapped with the man's, Lo said.

The man visited the B2 food court in Terminal 2 of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on Feb. 22 and Liang's Rice Noodle Soup in New Taipei's Zhonghe District on Feb. 25, and people who were there should monitor their health until March 15, Lo said...

New Taipei reports 1 additional measles case

Taipei, March 2 (CNA) New Taipei has reported an additional measles case, involving a 31-year-old man residing in Zhonghe District, bringing the city's total measles patients to three so far this year, according to the city's Department of Health on Saturday.

The department said in a statement that the man began experiencing symptoms of fever, coughing, and sore throat on Feb. 18. Despite receiving treatment, he continued to develop rashes on Feb. 28 and was subsequently confirmed to have contracted the disease on the same day.

Wang Mei-hua (王美華), head of the department's Disease Control Division, told CNA that all three measles cases reported in New Taipei were individuals living in Zhonghe District. However, the third case was not linked to the previous two cases.​..

2 more local measles cases reported in northern Taiwan: CDC

Taipei, March 5 (CNA) The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported three new cases of measles in Taiwan Tuesday, comprising one imported case, and two local infections linked to a cluster in northern Taiwan.

According to the CDC, the two new local cases are linked to a man in his 30s, who on Feb. 19 became the first person to contract measles in Taiwan since September 2022.

One of the new locally transmitted cases is a woman in her 20s who, after having contact with the index case at the hospital on Feb. 15, developed symptoms including a cough, itchy throat, fever and rash between Feb. 27 and March 1.

She sought medical attention twice and was diagnosed with measles after being referred from a local clinic to a hospital.

The other infected individual, a man in his 40s, visited a location on Feb. 11 where the index case had been and developed symptoms such as sore throat, rash, and fatigue between Feb. 28 and March 1.

He was subsequently confirmed to have measles after seeking medical attention.​..

Hsinchu County reports new imported measles case

Taipei, March 9 (CNA) Hsinchu County's Public Health Bureau reported an imported case of measles on Saturday after a woman who recently returned to Taiwan from a trip to Malaysia tested positive.

The woman in her 30s, who visited the Southeast Asian country with a friend from Feb. 16-20, experienced pain around her neck on March 4, and began developing symptoms of fever and rash two days later on March 6, the bureau said.

She was subsequently confirmed to have measles after seeking medical attention, it said, adding that the patient was in stable condition and being quarantined at home.​..

Measles cases from Feb. 20 Kota Kinabalu-Taoyuan flight hit 3

​Taipei, March 12 (CNA) The number of confirmed measles cases from a Feb. 20 AirAsia flight between Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport has risen to three, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Local health authorities said Tuesday that two infected female passengers -- a 29-year-old Hualien resident and a 34-year-old who spent time in Hsinchu -- were sat in neighboring rows to the cluster's index case, a man in his 20s, confirmed as having measles on Feb. 27.

The two women had already been listed as close contacts of the index case before they began developing symptoms, including a rash, between March 3 and 6, the CDC said...
