CDC issues Level 1 travel advisory for Vietnam after man gets measles

Taipei, Oct. 8 (CNA) A Taiwanese man came down with the measles after traveling in Vietnam in mid-September, prompting the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to issue a Level One travel advisory for the Southeast Asian country...

...The CDC said in a news release on Tuesday that the man in his 30s was in Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island between Sep. 14 and 18.

After returning to Taiwan, he developed symptoms including fever, a cough, a sore throat and diarrhea between Sept. 23-29, with red rashes breaking out on Sept. 29.

The man tested positive for measles and was quarantined. He was discharged on Oct. 5 after being treated, the news release said.

One hundred and fifty-four people who came in contact with the man before he was quarantined have been identified, including nine family members and 145 others. These individuals will be under observation until Oct. 17, according to the CDC...

....The CDC said that there have been 12 measles cases in Taiwan so far this year, with the ages of the patients ranging from 20-50. This figure is significantly higher than the number of cases reported over the past three years, which did not exceed two cases in any single year period.

Seven of the 12 cases reported this year were contracted from foreign countries including Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, the CDC said.

CDC announces sixth case of locally acquired measles

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Friday afternoon reported a case of locally acquired measles from a man in northern Taiwan, and while the agency is tracing the potential source of infection, 102 close contacts are being monitored for symptoms.

The patient is a man in his 30s who lives in northern Taiwan and has not visited other countries recently. His is the sixth locally acquired measles case this year.

The man began having symptoms including a fever, fatigue, nausea and joint pain between Nov. 13 and Nov. 15, and sought treatment at a clinic twice, but his symptoms continued and he developed coughing, red rashes and conjunctivitis, CDC Deputy Director-General and spokesman Philip Lo (羅一鈞) said...

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control has announced a measles cluster involving four new cases directly associated with a man in his 40s who visited relatives in Vietnam.

Measles was transmitted to a family caregiver, an emergency room nurse, a cleaner, and a passenger from the same flight. The new cases all experienced symptoms appearing between Dec. 11-13, per UDN.

Health authorities have also identified 152 contacts coming into contact with individuals in this measles cluster and each individial will be monitored until Jan. 5. CDC Spokesperson Tseng Shu-hui (曾淑慧) said the list of contacts includes 28 airline passengers seated near the initial measles case.​..

More people get measles in hospital cluster case: CDC

Taipei, Dec. 25 (CNA) Seven new measles cases, including several involving medical professionals, have been recorded in a cluster that developed in a central Taiwan hospital, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Wednesday.

The seven new cases brought the total number in the cluster to 12, making it the biggest outbreak of measles in Taiwan in the past five years, the CDC said.

Last week, the CDC said the cluster was triggered by a 40-year-old man who developed a fever, a sore throat, rhinitis and other symptoms on Dec. 1, the day he returned to Taiwan after visiting relatives in Vietnam.

He was hospitalized the next day, causing a cluster of infections in the hospital, according to the CDC.​...

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Centers for Disease Control (CDC, 疾管署) reported three new measles cases on Tuesday (Dec. 31), with two linked to a local hospital cluster and one imported. Kuo Hung-wei (郭宏偉), a CDC official, revealed the cases developed symptoms between Dec. 20 and Dec. 27, with rashes appearing from Dec. 24 to Dec. 29.

The local cases involve men in their 50s and 30s who shared exposure with previously reported cases. Meanwhile, the imported case, a man in his 40s, contracted measles after working in Cambodia from Dec. 2 to Dec. 19 and has since been released from isolation.​..

Bullet train passengers warned of possible measles exposure

Kaohsiung, Jan. 6 (CNA) High-speed rail passengers who traveled between Kaohsiung and Taichung late last month in the same train cars with a man diagnosed with measles should contact Kaohsiung's Department of Health, the agency said Monday.

In a statement, the department said the Centers for Disease Controls (CDC) confirmed on Jan. 3 that the individual who traveled on the high-speed rail in late December had been infected with the measles.

The man traveled from Zuoying to Taichung on Dec. 28 in Car 2 of train No. 160 and went from Taichung to Kaohsiung on Dec. 31 in Car 4 of train No. 153, the statement said.

The department urged those who traveled in the same cars as the man to contact it at 07-723-0250 or call the CDC toll-free hotline 1922 as quickly as possible given that measles is highly contagious four days before or after its onset.​...

CDC reports 3 more measles cases in central Taiwan hospital cluster

Taipei, Jan. 10 (CNA) The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Friday reported three new measles cases linked to a hospital cluster in central Taiwan, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the cluster to 19.

The CDC emphasized that the infections remain confined to hospital contacts with no evidence of the outbreak spreading.

In the three new cases, a woman in her 30s, a man in his 20s, and a man in his 40s, developed symptoms between Jan. 1 and 6, with rashes developing from Jan. 3 to 7, according to a CDC news release.​..
