Year?s second case of measles traced to Philippines: CDC

The year?s second case of imported measles has been confirmed, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said on Friday as it issued a travel alert for the Philippines, where the two cases originated.

The latest patient to contract the disease is a seven-month-old girl, who had not been vaccinated due to her age. It is thought that she came into contact with an infected person while on a family trip in the Philippines...

A Chinese student studying in Taiwan has been confirmed as being infected with rubella, making it the nation?s second case of German measles this year, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said yesterday.

A 25-year-old Chinese man who arrived in Taiwan in the middle of last month developed a rash earlier this month and was diagnosed with the disease on Monday, the CDC said...

Taipei, May 2 (CNA) The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Friday reported the 10th case of imported measles in Taiwan this year, indicating a higher rate of infection than in recent years.

A one-year-old baby girl, who returned from Vietnam on April 18, was confirmed to be infected with measles, according to the CDC.

One of the 125 people who had come into contact with her have developed measles symptoms, the CDC said, adding that it will continue monitoring them until May 22...

Taiwan records first cluster of indigenous measles this year

Taipei, May 2 (CNA) The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Friday urged the public to be alert to measles infections as the the first indigenous cluster has been confirmed following an imported case.

On April 18, a 24-year-old Taiwanese man who had returned from the Philippines seven days before was confirmed to be infected with measles, according to the CDC.

Two females who had come into contact with the man later developed symptoms of measles -- fever and a rash -- and tested positive for the disease on April 29, the CDC said...

TAIPEI--The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Saturday urged the public to take precautions against measles as Taiwan sees its 16th case of the viral infection so far this year.

A 24-year-old Taiwanese woman was confirmed to have been infected with measles on June 6 after she came into contact with a previous confirmed case, a 45-year-old Taiwanese woman who got infected in China, according to the CDC.

The latest case, also the second indigenous one Taiwan reported this year, could have gotten infected on May 24, when she and the 45-year-old woman shared the same waiting area to see a doctor, the CDC said...

Fifth German measle case confirmed

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) yesterday confirmed the fifth imported case of German measles this year, involving a 12-year-old Taiwanese-Indonesian boy who has had contact with 75 people since arriving in Taiwan late last month.

The boy has been living in Indonesia with his Taiwanese father and Indonesian mother for years, and he and his family arrived for a visit on June 20, six days before he started exhibiting symptoms such as fever and skin rashes, the centers said...

21st measles case of year found in Nantou

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A 24-year-old male student was confirmed to be the 21st measles case of the year at Ren-ai Township (仁愛鄉) in Nantou County, said the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) yesterday.

According to the CDC, symptoms such as fever, runny nose and red rashes started to appear for this student on Oct. 9. The student went to a doctor Oct. 13. As the local doctor suspected that it might be measles, the case was reported to the CDC and confirmed to be measles yesterday.

Due to the fact that the patient did not have any travel history, the CDC deemed that it is a local case and needs to be followed up on to prevent a potential outbreak of measles infection around the neighborhood...
