Swine H1N1 Explosion in United States

Re: School's out for summer

Re: School's out for summer

Where do they spend those 3 months? Daycare? Hanging out with friends at the mall?

Around here most elementary school age children spend large chunks of the summer in what are called 'day camps'.

If anything, the spread of the flu will be more difficult to track as the camps are usually only 1 week long and a given child will be signed up with camps organized by a variety of different organizations & will be mingling with a larger cohort of children than is found in the child's classroom. So for example, one week it might be an art camp put on by a museum, the next week it will be a sport organized by a community recreation center , the following week computer camp at the local college etc etc. Often a small group of friends or siblings will be going along together all summer but you'll still get a lot of mixing of kids from various districts in these day camps.

Re: Swine H1N1 Explosion in United States

Does anyone know rate they are burning through anti-viral drugs and if there is a risk of those running out? I would assume ventilators will be the first resource to be used up and we will see an uptick in the death rates, but are there enough drugs to handle all the cases that will need them?

Any data on the stockpile sizes and usage rates?

Re: Swine H1N1 Explosion in United States

1902 sequences from chicken, Brescia/Italy, but not H1N1.
I doubt they are correct because they are so similar to other 1927 sequences.
Some short bird sequences from before 1918, but presumably they are also
contaminations (admits the author)

1918 first wave would be interesting
