Swine flu probe claims denied
Posted on ? Friday, August 07, 2009

HEALTH Ministry officials have rubbished claims that they had launched an investigation into how a Bahrain resident had contracted swine flu. A report in a local newspaper said the probe was being conducted because the patient had not travelled or been in close contact with someone suffering from the H1N1 virus.

But ministry disease control section chief and acting public health director Dr Mona Al Mousawi confirmed that all swine flu patients had become infected through travel or from being in close contact with someone who had the virus. "There is no localised transmission at the moment," she told the GDN. "I don't know about his case, but all the cases we have were in close contact with an infected person or got the virus from outside."

People can report suspected cases on 17243183, 17246769 or 17772248, or fax 17251703.
