A new report suggests last year's swine flu pandemic was not over-hyped.

A new report suggests the swine flu pandemic was not over-hyped.

The Pandemic Influenza Mortality and Morbidity Review Group looked at the impact of last year's outbreak, the rate of infections and the circumstances around the 49 deaths that were recorded.

It's found health services were stretched during the winter of 2009 with considerably more hospital admissions and GP consultations when compared to other flu seasons.

The report says intensive care services did have a high workload and most of the 49 deaths occurred in a younger age group than is typical in influenza epidemics.
