Swine flu claims life of Timmins area man

A patient at Sudbury Regional Hospital who died tested positive for H1N1, the hospital announced Monday.
The deceased is an adult male from Timmins, sources have told Sun Media.
In a release, the Sudbury hospital said the death has been reported to the Porcupine Health Unit.
"The patient was identified as having conditions that increase risk for complications," the hospital said.
The hospital has not released any other details about the death and officials could not be reached for comment.
Attempts to reach a spokesman for the Porcupine Health Unit last night were not successful.
Sudbury Regional Hospital also reported Monday that eight patients who are on ventilators in critical care at the hospital are confirmed or probable H1N1.
A total of 22 patients are isolated in the Sudbury hospital with confirmed H1N1 or influenza-like symptoms.
Meanwhile, the hospital said people are encouraged to manage influenza-like symptoms at home, if possible, and visit the emergency department only if symptoms worsen, such as shortness of breath, severe dehydration.
In addition, the hospital is asking patients coming to the emergency department for care be accompanied by one only family member.
The Sudbury and District Health Unit did not conduct any clinics Monday because it had no vaccines.
