Dhaka, Sept 5 (bdnews24.com)?-Another person infected with the swine flu died in Dhaka on Friday in a second case of fatality in H1N1 virus in Bangladesh.

Dr Tariqul Islam, in charge of the ward earmarked for swine flu patients at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said 20-year old Abdus Sobhan Sagar died on Friday evening.

Sagar, a carpenter in Shekhertek in Mohammedpur in the capital, was admitted to the hospital with high fever and respiratory problem at 10am, according to Dr Islam.

His body was handed over to relatives around midnight.

The first H1N1 death in Bangladesh took place on Aug 30 when Mitali Chakravarty, a 35-year old woman from Savar, lost the battle at Lab Aid Hospital.

Another person died of swine flu last night at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Victim Abdus Sobhan alias Sagar, 20, a day labourer from Shekhertek in Mohammadpur, was admitted to the hospital at 6:00pm with severe respiratory complications, said Sobhan's father.

He said his son had been suffering from fever and respiratory problems for three days.

Earlier, a woman died of the contagious disease at the city's Labaid Hospital on August 30.

Meantime, six more people were tested positive for H1N1 virus yesterday, raising the number of swine flu patients to 281 across the country.

Shah Monir Hossain, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services, confirmed it last night.

However, when contacted in the evening, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) failed to give any information about the new swine flu cases.

Scientists said contagious strain of H1N1 virus, commonly known as swine flu virus, has replaced seasonal flu virus H3N2 in the country this year.

It is yet to be proved fatal as most patients with swine flu are recovering, they said.

IEDCR Senior Scientific Officer Mushtaq Husain said swine flu here is mild in nature.

"Only two per cent of the people infected with swine flu require anti-viral drugs while one percent might need intensive care," he said.

Meanwhile, experts welcomed the ministry's decision to make anti-viral drugs available on the market.

Health Minister AFM Ruhal Haque said an individual having prescription from a registered medical practitioner can buy the anti-viral drugs.
