Swine flu case reported at Dearborn school

The Detroit News

Dearborn -- A single case of swine flu has been confirmed at Edsel Ford High School, school officials reported Monday.

"The person is home recovering from the flu and will return to school soon," read the statement released to parents. No other details about the person's condition were given.

The school is expected to remain open per Centers for Disease Control guidelines, officials said.

To help protect against the spread of swine flu, officials are reminding students and staff to wash their hands often, use hand sanitizer and stay home if experiencing flu-like symptoms.

According to the Michigan Department of Community Health, about 1.4 million H1N1 vaccine doses will be at doctor's offices, clinics and county health departments statewide by the end of the month.

The immunization effort is aimed at curtailing an anticipated second wave of the pandemic that, according to the World Health Organization, has sickened 340,000 people and killed 4,100 around the globe since April.
